It was a cold and rainy December morning. After a night of partying, Ben burried himself under the pillows and searched for the alarm clock's snooze button. Unsuccessful at this, he finally sat up and rubbed his eyes, looking at the clock. Its 7:30 AM! He got up, gathered the clean clothes he could find and started running towards the bathroom. He turned on the shower and immediately jumped in, the cold water waking him up. Slipping into his school clothes, he grabbed his wallet, car keys, phone and backpack. He started the beat-up used car and headed out the driveway. Ben hated driving his car, in the seventies it turned heads, now with its peeling paint, rusted body and screeching engine, it made ears bleed and broke camera lenses. He swore that one day, he'll earn enough money to fix it up or dump it at a used car lot and buy a new car but still, it did get him his first girlfriend adding some value to the trash.
Finding the closest parking space at the student parking lot, he rushed towards the highschool entrance. Running full speed, he slammed to the locked doors of the school which is unsual since its an open campus and its always open except for weekends. He looked at his watch, its 8:00 AM and a Monday. He texted his friend to confirm that its a holiday.
After 30 minutes, a shot rang, not the sort you hear at track meets. Another one echoed throughout the campus. It was a gun shot! The curious person he is, Ben hopped the fence at the side of the school. While thinking why he decided to put himself in danger, he notices something flash on the top of the highschool theatre. Assuming it was lightning, he continued on walking to his first period class. Drenched with water, he entered the hallway and as soon as he got inside, a shot rang and bullet hit the wall behind him. He quickly ran for cover against the opposite wall. Ben jumped up in surprise as his phone vibrated. It was a text from his friend, it read, "Skool lock down, turn lft." Following the action in the phone, he turned his head to the left to see Kris, his bestfriend beckoning him to come. Running for his life, he made it to the classroom and he locked the door behind him and hid behind the teacher's desk, as if it was made out of bullet proof wood.
"Dude, I almost died!"
"I know, I saw."
"What? Is there like a psycho student loose or something?"
"I don't know, what did you see?"
"Nothing really? I mean its raining."
"Damn, so, crazy morning huh?"
"Dumb morning, I could've been at Burger King or a diner eating breakfast!"
"Hahaha, at least you're alive."
Kris looked as if he's a cat about to be dumped in a tub of water while Ben got his phone to text Abby, his girlfriend.
On the other side of the campus, Abby's phone started to vibrate. Face down with a gun pointed to her head and to the heads of her classmates, she started crying. The masked man picked her up from the hair and started telling her to shut up. She just continued to cry. He smacked her and knocked her out. She fell to the ground unconcious as the other students stared at her. The man picked up his phone and dialed a number. He briefly said something in Arabic and shut the phone.
Sirens were heard and the man turned his attention to the window. Outside was a mob of police cars and police men hiding behind them. The man chuckled and pulled his phone out. He dialed another number but this time he didn't even bother to check who would answer. He let it rang for thrity seconds and after he closed it, the fiery enferno was lit outside exploding the police vehicles like popcorn and blasting the windows open. Screaming of the men on fire can be heard as well as the clanking of the burnt metal from the vehicles. As the stench of gasoline and burned bodies, the man chuckled and looked outside enjoying the scene. He looked towards the soaking figure on the school roof and nodded. The figure rose up and repelled down the slippery wall of the school theatre and headed to the Biology building.
Meanwhile inside one of the biology classrooms, Ben was mulling over his options while the explosion occured. He wanted to escape but scared he'd get his friends and fellow students killed. He told the teacher he's making a break for it, the man too scared to do anything just nodded. Kris touched Ben's shoulder.
"I'm coming with you dude!"
"No, I don't want to get you killed."
"Bitch! Not like that loser teacher can do anything."
"But..."
Kris looked at Ben seriously.
"Just like playing Marines, lets go."
"Yes!" Kris laughed and said goodbye to the class.
Slow, steady footsteps echoed in the hallways. Kris and Ben were positioned near the corners that are blind to the person walking towards them. A bright flash of light followed by a boom illuminated the hallway, revealing the figure's shadow in the dark hallway. His right arm, slightly longer than the left and the extention is too big to be a finger but too small to be his hand. Kris opened his back-pack and found what he was looking for, it was knife. Ben reached in his pocket and found a ball-point pen. Kris looked at him with disbelief and he just shrugged. Another lightning struck revealing the figure closer to them. They crouched and hid behind the shadows in the corners. The man, within reach was drenched with water and dressed in black. On his right hand was a small hand gun and on his back as a slinged military rifle probably from the black market. Ben and Kris looked at each other, their pulse running high. Ben nodded, he launched himself at the man and wrapped his arms around his neck, putting him in a choke hold. As the man raised his gun to shoot behind him, Kris lurched out of the dark corner and slashed the attacker's hand making him drop the gun. Ben tightened his hold on to the guy who is now panicking as he gasp for air. Finally he turned limp and he was dropped on to the ground. Ben entered the classroom once again and retrieved a book cover and a lab coat. He ripped the lab coat and used a piece of it was ties for the hands and feet while the book cover was used for a gag.
Kris picked up the weapon while Ben grabbed the heavy M-4 complete with a scope and bipod and any ammunition the man carried. They seached him to find a map that indicated which rooms, corners and hallways the other men were stationed. He slinged the rifle while he and Kris dragged the body into the class room and into a cupboard which they barred with a metal pole from the broom in the room. The closest post was the two chemestry rooms to the right but imaginary stun grenades that they use when playing their games would be no use. Since theres no real cover, it would turn into a firefight, risking casualties. The other close area was the history building's hallway downstairs and the math building's hallway upstairs to the left. Only one problem, theres a man on the theatre building that overlooked the quad, which is probably rigged with explosives like the school emergency exit or entrance.
Ben looked at the map again, theres eight total men, one on the theatre, two by the language building, two at the chemistry building and two at the history-math building and one at an English classroom overlooking the east entrance to the school but none at the biology building. Ben ran to the east biology building entrance and out into the rain. He deployed the bipods and went to the prone position. Adjusting himself to see the theatre roof, after three scans, no head, muzzle or flash visible. Again, he fixed fixed his position to see the language building. Adjusting the scope's magnification, he's able to see one man downstairs. Running upstairs into the chemistry building he quickly scoped out the upstairs of the language building and saw another man, making both the men there present. He rushed back into the biology building to meet with Kris who informed him theres a man on the history hallway but he wasn't sure on the man in the mathematics hallway.
"Guess what else I found?"
"What?"
"Silencers dude, this one's prolly for that one 'cus this one fits mine."
"Thanks." Ben retracted the bipods and fixed the silencer on.
"Hey, why do you get the cooler gun?"
"Because my aim sucks?"
"Oh, haha, thanks I guess."
"History hallway then"
Back into the English classroom, the man inside started become paranoid as none of his calls to his sniper in the theatre were getting returned. He started to call the men in the history-math building. Again, no one was picking up. Trying to rationalize the situation, he figured out that the rain must be at fault. Still he can't ignore the fact that cell phones work through satellite, not land lines.
"Chill dude!"
"What?" The man said with a think Middle Eastern accent.
"I said chill, your making me seasick with the pacing!" the class clown chirped.
"Are you mocking me?"
"Nah, I'm telling you to calm down. Why are you so jittery, missed you're cocaine hour?"
"Smart ass huh? I'll show you a smart ass!"
He reached behind him, gripping the handgun. Abby started to groan and move. The man raised the gun and aimed it at the smartass. Lighting stuck, illuminating the dark room. Blood splattered onto the white wall, a loud scream rang throughout the school.
As Kris and Ben finished clearing the Language building and grapping zip ties from the NJROTC class room and the Marine instructor, Abby's scream pierced Ben's ear and heart. Ben ran upstairs to the English classroom as 1st Sergeant, armed with an M-16 and Kris with a shotgun from previous attackers that were overwhelmed followed closely behind.
"Don't be stupid!" Kris and 1st Sgt. yelled.
"You'll get killed, you can't rush in there, we have to take them by surprise like the last ones!" Kris added.
Still, Ben continued to run to the room, rifle in hand. He forced the door open with the rifle butt and open fired on the man. The impact of the sixteen bullets that hit his vest caused him to lose conciousness. Ben dropped his gun and ran to Abby who was bleeding. Kris and 1st Sgt. entered the room, seeing the scene, the trained Marine pushed Ben grabbed the medical bag by the door and started working on Abby. Kris grabbed some zip-ties and tied the unconcious assailant. After a few minutes, the police and paramedics entered the room. Abby, with the crude patch-up job was hauled away to the ambulance while the marine assured Ben everything is okay since the bullet missed any vital organs, it was just deep. Shorty after, a school assembly was called, they started to head to the auditorium after getting debriefed by the officer in charge.
